K9 Nose Work Class Guidelines
We strive to keep learning enjoyable and fun for everyone and allow shy and reactive dogs to participate in our classes. To keep everyone safe and working in a comfortable environment please allow all dogs a good amount of space while working indoors/outdoors, crossing paths in the staging or potty area and while getting set up in the parking lot. Please do not allow dogs to meet or play. Feel free to schedule play dates on your own time.
Dogs are crated or tethered in vehicles while they wait for their turn, weather permitting; when it is hot outside we have indoor crating options available. When crating indoors please arrive 5 minutes early to set up your crating area. Be sure to unload your belongings first, set up your crating area and then return to your car to get your dog. Please cover your dog's crate with a blanket to minimize visibility and to keep them calm while they wait their turn.
EQUIPMENT FOR DOG:
Bring a crate, a blanket to cover your crate, water, bowl, potty bags, stuffed kongs or bones and anything your dog may need to be comfortable.
During spring and summer months please bring fans, reflective coats and covers for your dog/car. Please bring your dog on a flat collar, martingale or comfortable sport or working harness. Please remove any tags or anything around the neck that will jingle. No flexi-leads, choke collars, chains, prong collars or electronic collars on the premises please.
Bring 3 to 4 types of small, cubed treats that are easy to handle - cubed not shredded and already broken up or cut - novel, moist and smelly treats work well - cubed cooked steak or chicken, sausage, hot dog, pre-cut ravioli, cubed cheese, etc... Let us know if your dog has any allergies and be prepared to trade treats with other classmates. Dogs are often curious about what other dogs eat. Also bring chews, bones or stuffed Kongs to keep your dog comfortable and occupied while she's waiting her turn.
Please use area across the street to potty your dog and make sure to deposit poop in garbage can belonging to property only.
EQUIPMENT FOR HANDLER:
Come prepared to work in ALL weather - rain or shine! Please plan on wearing cool clothes during our warm season; warm clothing during our cold season and rain gear during our rainy season. Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, water and wear closed toed shoes to class. Bring a treat pouch or apron for your dogs treats. NEW STUDENTS: No Ziploc bags in treat pouch please. Do bring an extra ziploc bag or plastic container with your dog's treats and your dog's name on it.
We learn a lot from watching dogs work! And dogs learn a lot from being supported by observers. Please be courteous and engage in personal conversation either before and/or after class and not during class time.
Thank you for joining us!
